anti rabies vaccine for pets quick answer

anti rabies vaccine for pets is available through Vetlyf for pet parents in Gurugram and Delhi NCR. Puppies are given the anti-rabies vaccine twice: Vetlyf's published puppy plan places the first dose at 12-13 weeks and the second at 14-16 weeks, with the 14-in-1. Kittens get theirs at 14-16 weeks alongside the third FVRCP dose, and a dog or cat starting an adult plan gets it 6 months later. Every plan then ends in a booster review rather than a one-off shot — and every date on this page is lifted from the plan schedules Vetlyf already publishes.

Where the Rabies Dose Sits in Each Schedule

Every date below is a row from a plan Vetlyf publishes — puppy, kitten, adult dog and adult cat. If your pet's situation needs a date that is not on this list, that date is your vet's to set at the visit, not one to take off a chart.

Step 1

Puppies: First Dose at 12-13 Weeks

The puppy plan lists "12-13 Weeks — Anti-Rabies (1st Dose)". It comes after the 9-in-1 course has already started, which is why the rabies shot is not the first thing a new puppy gets. If yours is already older than this when you bring him home, nothing is lost permanently — the vet sets the catch-up order at the first visit.

Step 2

Puppies: Second Dose at 14-16 Weeks

The same plan then lists "14-16 Weeks — Anti-Rabies (2nd Dose), 14-in-1". A puppy's rabies cover is written as two doses, so treat the first shot as the start of the course and the second as what completes it. Get the second date written down before you leave the first appointment; this is the one people forget.

Step 3

Kittens: Rabies at 14-16 Weeks

The kitten plan puts rabies in the last of the three FVRCP visits: "14-16 Weeks — FVRCP (3rd Dose), Rabies". So a kitten receives one rabies dose inside her first course where a puppy receives two — the two species are not on the same schedule, and copying a dog's dates onto a cat is a common way to get this wrong.

Step 4

Adults: Rabies 6 Months Later

A pet who starts as an adult follows a different order. Both adult plans open with a core vaccine and a health check — "Initial Visit — DHPP, Health Assessment" for dogs, "Initial Visit — FVRCP, Health Assessment" for cats — and place rabies 6 months later: "Rabies, Leptospirosis" for dogs, "Rabies, FeLV (if needed)" for cats.

Step 5

Then a Booster Review, Not a Full Stop

Rabies is not one-and-done. The kitten plan closes at "1 Year — Annual Booster Review", and both adult plans end at the annual follow-up: "Kennel Cough, Booster Review" for dogs, "Booster Review, Wellness Check" for cats. Note the word review — what is actually given on the day is decided by your vet from your pet's record.

Step 6

Leave With the Record

Vetlyf's at-home vaccination visits issue a digital vaccination record after the appointment, and the rabies entry is the line boarding kennels, daycare, groomers and travel paperwork look for. File it the day you get it and photograph the paper card too — a lost card is what turns a booking into a re-vaccination conversation.

People Also Ask About the Anti-Rabies Vaccine

When does a puppy get the anti-rabies vaccine?

Vetlyf's published puppy plan gives the first anti-rabies dose at 12-13 weeks and the second at 14-16 weeks, in the visit that also carries the 14-in-1. The rabies shot follows the start of the 9-in-1 course rather than opening it. A puppy who starts late is caught up on an order the vet sets.

At what age do kittens get the rabies vaccine?

Kittens are scheduled for rabies at 14-16 weeks, in the same visit as the third FVRCP dose, on Vetlyf's published kitten plan. That is one rabies dose inside the kitten course, where the puppy course carries two. A kitten adopted later is placed on a catch-up plan by the vet.

How much does the anti-rabies vaccine cost?

Vetlyf publishes the price of the visit the rabies dose comes in, not a price for the vial on its own. At-home dog annual vaccination is listed at Rs. 1,599 with Dhppi+L (9 in 1) plus Anti Rabies, and cat annual vaccination at Rs. 1,299 with the feline combination vaccine plus Anti Rabies. Pricing is confirmed at booking.

Why is the anti-rabies vaccine given twice to puppies?

Because the puppy course is written as two doses — 12-13 weeks and 14-16 weeks — with the second completing what the first begins. One shot is a course started, not a course finished. Ask the vet to date the second visit while you are still in the room for the first.

Is the anti-rabies vaccine compulsory for pets?

Vetlyf's puppy plan lists the cover as "Rabies (Govt-mandated)", and boarding kennels, daycare, groomers and travel paperwork routinely ask to see a rabies record before they will deal with you. What applies where you live is a question for your vet at the visit — this page does not interpret rules for your city.

Can an adult dog or cat that never had rabies start now?

Yes. The adult plans open with a core vaccine and health assessment, then place rabies 6 months later: "Rabies, Leptospirosis" for dogs and "Rabies, FeLV (if needed)" for cats. Bring whatever record exists — with nothing verifiable, your vet may reorder that sequence for your pet.

Anti-Rabies Vaccine Questions

My pet bit or scratched someone — what should we do?

A bite or scratch involving a person is a medical matter for a doctor, and the person should be seen straight away. This page does not advise on human treatment and no vet page should. Separately, call your vet, say what happened, and have your pet's vaccination record with you for that conversation.

Does my pet need a rabies booster every year?

Every Vetlyf plan ends in a review rather than an automatic shot: the kitten plan closes at "1 Year — Annual Booster Review" and both adult plans at the annual follow-up. What is given on the day is decided by your vet from your pet's own record and history, so keep the record where you can find it.

Where do I get the vaccination certificate, and who asks for it?

Vetlyf's at-home vaccination visits issue a digital vaccination record after the appointment. Boarding kennels, daycare, groomers and travel paperwork commonly ask to see it, and the rabies entry is usually the line they check. Keep a photo of the paper card as a backup — cards get lost long before boosters get missed.

We adopted a rescue with no papers. Where does rabies fit?

Your vet plans from what can be verified, so bring anything written that came with your pet and say plainly what is unknown. With no usable record, a course may be started from the beginning rather than assumed part-done, and the rabies dose is placed inside that plan by the vet.

My cat never goes outside. Does she still need it?

Vetlyf publishes one adult cat plan whether or not a cat goes out, with "Rabies, FeLV (if needed)" 6 months later. Indoor cats still escape through doors, meet visiting animals, and go to the clinic or boarding. Whether to vaccinate yours is a decision to make with your vet, not one to skip by default.

What should I expect after the rabies shot?

Mild tiredness or soreness can be normal after a vaccination, and the vet briefs you on what to watch for before leaving. Anything that worries you — swelling, repeated vomiting, a pet who will not settle or will not get up — is a call to the clinic the same day, not a wait-and-see.
